5 oz Instant Original Classic Hummus Mix

I was given a package of this with my order of dried vegetables and asked for a review. I like it! I would add less water to it than the package suggests because I found it too thin, kind of like gravy, when made as instructed. I thought the flavor was good. I don’t like it quite as well as the dressed up hummus, or even plain hummus in the stores, but I will definitely order some with my next dried veggies order because I love the convenience of having some waiting for me in the pantry whenever I may want it.

I received a free 5 oz package of this hummus in my first order (freeze dried organic fruits for my small parrot) and just tried it yesterday! It is delicious, easy to prepare and the whole package made a little more than a standard container from the grocery store. I am very picky about my hummus and find most of what's currently being sold in stores not the best taste-wise and especially texture-wise. Most is extremely thin, like baby food; I prefer really thick hummus that is more pasty and can be spread without dripping everywhere. When I made the whole package (~1 cup of dry mix), I only used the amount of water the recipe on the back gives for making it with 1/2 cup of the mix (2/3 cup) and it was nearly perfect. I think I could reduce the water even further. It is delicious, every bit as much as when I make my own hummus from scratch (including the chickpeas!), but waaaay less time consuming. Today my second order of freeze dried fruits came, and I received another free pack of hummus, this time the roasted red pepper (my husband's favorite!). We are looking forward to trying it, and I'm already planning for this hummus to become part of our camping menu; we camp off-grid for a long periods of days and storage space is important in our tiny camper fridge. Having an instant hummus that packs well and mixes up easily without creating a lot of waste will be fabulous! I am sure we will love the jalapeño flavor, too. I think I'll be ordering that 3 pack of flavors really soon. And my husband is already planning on taking some with him on his backcountry hiking trips!!!

Tried this and was really impressed with how smooth and nutty it was. Didn’t need to add anything except EVOO olive oil and some water. I also tried it with some pine nuts on top and chopped up some tangy dried apricots - delicious!!!
