4 Quick & Easy Holiday Appetizers with Instant Hummus to Serve at Your Christmas Party

Hummus is a condiment of iconic status. People around the globe enjoy it on the reg, mainly due to its earthy flavor and creamy texture. Unfortunately, while it's a spread for all seasons and reasons, many consume it just on weekdays - when time is scarce, and the appetite for something comforting is big. The thing is, though, that hummus works wonders on elaborate occasions, i.e., the holidays. It's so rich and flavorful that it can stand alone as an appetizer with the help of some minor tweaks. So, if you want to shake up your appetizer routine this year, these four quick and easy holiday appetizers with instant hummus are exactly what you need.

How to Make Mother Earth Product's Instant Hummus

Making hummus from scratch is easy but still requires time and effort. To skip a few steps and have a bowl of the spread ready in under 15 minutes, you can always use Mother Earth Products Instant Classic Hummus Mix. PS: This is the "mother" recipe for the following appetizers, yielding 9 ounces of hummus, which is a little more than a cup. So, if you want, you can always double the recipe and have some ready for future use.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of Instant Hummus Mix

3/4 cup hot water

1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

Add all the ingredients to a bowl and whisk until combined. At this point, the spread will be runny.

Transfer the bowl to the fridge and cool for 15 minutes until the spread thickens. Enjoy!

  1. Hummus Phyllo Cups

This quick and easy holiday appetizer with instant hummus is a step up from the classic mini-tart, perfect for an elevated holiday buffet. The creamy hummus filling pairs great with the crunchy phyllo shell, and the toppings add the necessary saltiness. Pair with a glass of white wine for some good measure.

Ingredients:

  • 4 phyllo sheets
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup Mother Earth Products Instant Hummus (recipe above)
  • 4 tbsp cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • 2 tbsp black olives, pitted and sliced
  • 2 tbsp Feta cheese, crumbled

Instructions:

Thaw the phyllo sheets according to the package's instructions. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375oF.

Lay one sheet of the dough out and brush with butter. Top with another sheet and brush again. Repeat with the remaining sheets.

Cut into 15 squares and press each into a muffin tin. Poke the dough with a fork and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and cool completely.

Scoop a spoonful of hummus into each phyllo cup and top with the tomatoes, olives, and cheese. Serve immediately.

  1. Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus with Baked Pita Chips

Preheat the oven to 425oF and set aside a large baking sheet.

Cut each pita bread into eight equal triangles and transfer to the sheet. Brush with one tablespoon of olive oil and season with salt and oregano.

  1. Cheesy Red Pepper Hummus Balls

Hummus is known for its creaminess. That's a fact. However, in this innovative holiday recipe, the spread gets a crispy makeover, coated in crunchy cereal and baked into golden perfection. Yes, that's possible! Adding crumbles of Feta cheese will also give the treat some holiday flair and turn it into the talk of the party.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup freeze dried potatoes
  • 1/2 cup Mother Earth Product Instant Hummus (recipe above)
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp dried garlic (granulated)
  • 2 cups no-sugar cereal, crumbled
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

Add the potatoes and 2 cups of warm water to a microwave-safe bowl and soak for 15 minutes. Once hydrated, drain the water and transfer the bowl to the microwave. Cook for 8 minutes on high until cooked through. Mash the potatoes and set aside to cool.

Add the hummus, olive oil, and parsley and combine. Form the mixture into balls and add a few Feta cheese crumbs on top of each.

Preheat the oven to 450oF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

Add the eggs in one bowl. Then, mix the flour, garlic, and salt into another bowl. Also, add the cereal crumbs to the third bowl.

Roll the balls into the flour mixture, dip into the egg mixture, and coat with the cereal. Transfer to the baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes and serve.
